Neeraj Chopra's Vedic Chart: Mars Exalted in Capricorn

Mars sits at about 10.9 degrees of Capricorn, its sign of exaltation, in the nakshatra Shravana. It holds there across the entire birth date, so it does not depend on the unknown birth time.

In Jyotish Mars is the karaka of physical strength, courage, competition, discipline of the body, and in the classical vocabulary, weapons and sharp implements. Exalted Mars is that planet at full power, and Capricorn adds structure and sustained effort to it rather than raw aggression.

I will resist drawing the obvious conclusion, because a chart does not explain a career and plenty of people have exalted Mars without throwing anything. But as a correspondence between a placement and a discipline it is unusually tidy, and it is the sort of thing worth noticing without treating it as proof of anything.

Venus sits close by at about 10 degrees of Capricorn in Uttara Ashadha.

Debilitated Jupiter in the same sign

Jupiter is at about 26.9 degrees of Capricorn, which is its sign of debilitation, in Dhanishtha. So the same sign holds both an exalted Mars and a fallen Jupiter.

Debilitation is a technical statement about dignity, not a verdict. Jupiter signifies ease, expansion and things arriving without being forced, so a debilitated Jupiter is generally read as describing results that have to be built rather than received. Classical texts also provide for Neecha Bhanga, a cancellation of debilitation under specific conditions, but checking whether those apply requires house positions, which are unavailable here.

His Sun is at about 8.7 degrees of Sagittarius in Mula, the root star ruled by Ketu. Mercury is at 24.1 degrees of Scorpio in Jyeshtha and retrograde. Saturn is at 19.8 degrees of Pisces in Revati.

The Moon, and what is not knowable

At midnight on 24 December 1997 the Moon sits at about 28.4 degrees of Virgo in Chitra. By the end of the day it has reached 10.4 degrees of Libra in Swati.

So the Moon sign is genuinely open: an early birth gives Virgo, most of the day gives Libra. The nakshatra runs Chitra to Swati, ruled by Mars and Rahu respectively, so once again the two possibilities imply different starting mahadashas and different timelines. Venus also changes nakshatra during the day.

And as with every chart here where the time is unrecorded, there is no ascendant, no houses, no divisional charts, and no dasha dates. Wikipedia gives his date and place of birth and nothing else.

The exalted Mars and the debilitated Jupiter survive all of that, because both are sign-level facts. Where in the chart they sit, and therefore what areas of life they govern, does not.
