Three questions are hiding inside this one

Asked plainly, the question is about another person. A chart cannot answer that, and it is worth saying so before anything else. What can be separated out are three smaller questions, and each has a real reading.

Does my chart show a tendency to return to what is finished? When does partnership come forward in my life again? Which part of the bond is actually unresolved, the affection or the commitment? Those are about you. They are readable. Keep them apart and the chart becomes useful instead of oracular.

Retrogression, the clearest returning signature

A retrograde planet is read in Jyotish as a planet going back over ground it has already covered. Applied to relationships, this is the most direct signature the chart holds for the question.

Look at the lord of the 7th house. If it is retrograde, matters of partnership tend to be revisited rather than settled once. The same reading applies to a retrograde Venus, the natural significator of love. Practitioners also watch a retrograde planet sitting in the 7th itself.

This is a statement about a pattern in your life, not a prediction about one person. A retrograde 7th lord describes someone whose partnerships characteristically reopen, get reconsidered, and are decided more than once. It does not name who.

Check it yourself rather than taking it on faith. The retrograde status of each planet is printed in your chart, and the 7th lord is simply the ruler of the sign on your 7th house.

What the houses separate that the question does not

The 5th house governs romance, affection and courtship. The 7th governs commitment and partnership as a contract. A relationship can lose one and keep the other, which is why some endings feel unfinished and others feel clean.

The 12th house is read for separation, for loss, and for the private life shared in a bed. Venus connected to the 12th is traditionally read as love that involves distance, secrecy or sacrifice, and it appears often in charts where attachment outlives the relationship.

The 8th house carries what continues underground. A bond with 8th house involvement tends to transform rather than finish, which is a different thing from returning.

Then the Rahu and Ketu axis. Rahu is appetite and the pull toward what feels unfinished. Ketu is the thing already saturated, familiar to the point of weariness. When this axis falls across the 1st and 7th houses, the pattern described is a person who cannot quite leave and cannot quite stay. Why some people feel fated covers the same axis from the other direction.

Timing: when partnership reopens

Timing comes from the Vimshottari dasha, not from transits alone.

Partnership moves to the foreground when a period belonging to the 7th lord becomes active, or Venus, or a planet sitting in the 7th house. The antardasha inside it decides the texture. Jupiter transiting over the natal 7th house or over natal Venus is the transit practitioners watch alongside it.

What this gives you is a window of months, not a date. It is also a window for partnership in general, which is the part people skip. A reopening period can bring a different person entirely, and the chart will not distinguish them. Marriage timing in Vedic astrology goes through how these windows are read.

The honest use of a window is to know when your own readiness changes.

Why the other chart does not settle it either

If you have their birth details, compatibility can be scored. It still will not answer this.

Gun milan measures temperamental and household fit across eight factors. None of them measures whether somebody will pick up the phone. Two charts can score highly and never speak again, and the reverse happens constantly. A compatibility score describes how a partnership would work if it existed, and the question here is whether it will exist.

Free will sits in the gap. Your chart holds your placements. Theirs holds theirs. Neither contains the other person's decisions, and a reading that claims otherwise is selling certainty.

Two findings from outside astrology worth knowing here

The signs are partly a perception effect. The frequency illusion, named by the Stanford linguist Arnold Zwicky in a 2005 post and since added to the Oxford English Dictionary, describes how something you have newly become alert to suddenly appears everywhere. Zwicky attributed it to selective attention followed by confirmation bias. After a breakup, their name, their car, their song and their birthday number become findable because you are looking. The sightings are real. Their frequency is a function of attention.

The second finding is the uncomfortable one. In 1998 the psychologist C. R. Knee published work in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology separating destiny beliefs, the view that two people either fit or they do not, from growth beliefs, the view that a relationship is built. Destiny beliefs were associated with disengagement and avoidance when a relationship hit difficulty. For a destiny believer, a problem is evidence the match was wrong.

Read that against a reunion and the trap is visible. The belief that this person was meant for you is the belief most likely to end it a second time, at the first obstacle that reconciliation always brings.

What to actually do with a chart here

Read your 7th lord and whether it is retrograde. Read where Venus sits and whether it touches the 12th. Read whether the Rahu and Ketu axis crosses your 1st and 7th. Those three tell you whether returning is a pattern of yours, which is worth knowing whatever happens with this person.

Then read the running period. If a partnership window is open, that is information about your readiness, not a prediction about theirs. If no such period is active for two years, that is information too.

One practical caution. The 7th house and the Navamsa both depend on an accurate birth time, and the Navamsa ascendant moves roughly every 13 minutes, so a time that is off by a quarter of an hour changes this reading entirely.

No remedy obliges another person to return, and any reading that offers one has stopped describing a chart.

Frequently asked questions

Can Vedic astrology tell me if my ex will come back?

No. Your kundli contains your placements, not theirs, and a reunion requires another person to choose it. What a chart reads is whether you carry a returning pattern, through a retrograde 7th lord, Venus tied to the 12th house, or the Rahu and Ketu axis across the 1st and 7th, and when a period connected to the 7th lord or Venus brings partnership forward again. Those describe you and your timing, never their decision.

Which placement shows a relationship coming back?

A retrograde planet is read as going back over ground already covered, so a retrograde 7th lord or a retrograde Venus is the closest thing to a returning signature in a chart. It describes someone whose partnerships tend to be reopened and decided more than once. It does not identify who returns, and a chart with no retrogression can still see a reunion.

Does a high gun milan score mean we will get back together?

No, because it answers a different question. The 36-point Ashtakoota system scores temperamental and household compatibility across eight factors, and none of them measures whether someone will make contact. A high score describes how the partnership would work if it existed. Whether it exists again is a decision, not a placement.

What does it mean if my Venus is in the 12th house?

Venus connected to the 12th is traditionally read as love involving distance, privacy or sacrifice, and it appears often in charts where attachment continues after a relationship has ended. Read it as a description of how you love rather than a verdict on one relationship. The 12th house also governs loss and the private life shared between partners, so the same placement can describe several different situations.

Can an astrologer give me a date my ex will return?

A dasha period can mark a window of months when partnership comes forward in your life. It cannot name a date for another person's change of heart, because that is a decision rather than a calculation, and the window can equally bring somebody new. Anyone giving you a specific date for a specific person has left astrology behind.

Is there a remedy to bring someone back?

No remedy obliges another person to return, and a reading that offers one has stopped describing a chart. Remedies in Jyotish are traditionally aimed at the person holding the chart, to steady a planet's expression in their own life. Treat any practice sold as controlling somebody else's choices with suspicion, whatever it costs.
