Mangal Dosh
Also known as: Manglik Dosh, Kuja Dosha, Bhauma Dosha
Mangal Dosh is a chart configuration in which Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th bhava, traditionally considered a friction pattern in marriage compatibility.
Mars (Mangal) in those six houses is said to bring fiery, restless or aggressive energy to relationships, sometimes producing conflict, delay or separation. The dosha is checked from the lagna, the moon, and from Venus — a 'manglik' tag often requires Mars in those houses from at least two of the three. Strength of dosha varies: Mars in the 7th is treated as most severe, in the 1st less so. Several cancellations exist in classical texts: Mars in its own sign or exalted, Mars aspected by Jupiter, both partners being manglik (which is considered self-cancelling), or the chart being beyond age 28. Modern compatibility readings usually weigh the rest of the chart alongside the dosha rather than treating it as an absolute block.
