Gochar
Also known as: Transit, Gocara
Gochar is the Vedic term for planetary transits — the current real-time movement of planets through the zodiac, read against your natal birth chart positions.
Where the natal chart is a snapshot of the sky at birth, gochar is the live sky right now. Vedic astrologers track gochar to time short-term events: when transit Jupiter enters your 10th bhava, expect career growth; when transit Saturn enters your 8th, expect a slow restructuring. Gochar is most often read against the natal moon sign (chandra rashi) rather than the ascendant, because the moon represents day-to-day mind and circumstance. Saturn's gochar is the slowest at about 2.5 years per sign and produces the well-known sade sati period. Jupiter spends about a year per sign. The lunar nodes (Rahu and Ketu) move backward at roughly 1.5 years per sign.
